================================================================================ 2006 4.X VCS Cluster Simulator Also contains VCS Cluster Monitor application for windows ================================================================================ This tool allows you to test and train on VCS without the hardware and software installed in a true Veritas Cluster. It allows you to modify a main.cf and see the effects before you put it into a real cluster. NOTE: It only runs on Windows. NOTE: You must remove any Veritas Cluster Manager products on you Window system before you can install the simulator. It will give you a new Cluster Manager and remember your previous settings/config. NOTE: You can run the Cluster Simulator without doing any of the below listed changes, then start up whatever clusters are listed there. Then bring up the Cluster Monitor to manage those clusters. (Watch the port numbers; system will be "localhost"). ************************* WARNING **************************** NOTE: When you run the Cluster Manager, you will/may have the Simulated clusters listed with any REAL prod or test clusters. The ones that are simulated will have the string "(Simulator)" next to the cluster name. So be careful you don't mistake a REAL PROD cluster for the simulated one, and thereby shutdown the live production. After installing the simulator, you can set up your own cluster config for testing. There are canned configs, and a default config directory in which you drop in a main.cf and a types.cf ($SIMROOT/default_clus/conf/config). SIMROOT="c:/Program*Files/VERITAS/VCS*Simulator" Or, you can create your own testing cluster. We will show how to setup your own cluster config. hasim -setupclus -simport hasim -setupclus TEST-CLUS -simport 33333 This will make a directory called TEST-CLUS and populate with default main and ttype cf files. The file simconfig.txt contains the data of all setupclus values. $SIMROOT/VCS Simulator/TEST-CLUS/conf/config Then grab a copy of the .cf files from somehost:/etc/VRTSvcs/conf/config from a real cluster, and bring them across to the desktop, and put them into $SIMROOT/VCS Simulator/TEST-CLUS/conf/config Then run: #system should be a SYSTEM in main.cf if using your defined cluster #in the DOS Shell or cygwin window hasim -start -clus hasim -start widimu1 -clus TEST-CLUS export VCS_SIM_PORT=33333 export VCS_SIM_WAC_PORT=-1 hasim -sys -force system1 #if stale hasim -up system1 hasim -conf -makerw hasim -sys -add system2 hasim -conf -dump hasim -sys -state #like "hastatus -sum" hasim -sys -list hasim -sys -display You can then start up the VCS Cluster Monitor GUI, and add a "new simulator", point it to the server and port that you specified when creating the cluster on the desktop. This should bring up that system in the cluster, you can then start up the other systems in the simulator. From this point you can test fail over, adding new systems and resources. ================================================================================ http://www.veritas.com/van/misc/vcs_simulator.jsp VERITAS Cluster Server Simulator Try the simulator now for FREE!
