EEPROM SETTINGS DESCRIPTION This is how to set up a sun workstations after getting a new one in. There are also other settings that will effect the operations such as the ID PROM and the /etc/ttys and /etc/ttytype files. For the sun to boot-up and you to recognize it, the terminal type must be set on the eeprom. Go to >q1f then set for '00' for a black and white, '10' for a terminal on port A (this is for ncm), and '12' for a color monitor. Also >q50 and >q51 will set up the line resolution for VI. For a Sun 3/260 with a color monitor, they should be at 50 and 22 repectively, and for a Sun on Vaxncm they should be 50 and 40 repectively (If using a 80x34 columns/rows for the eeprom setting and 80x24 size window for the ncm xwindows .win file.). EXAMPLES: Sunop4 and SuperSun consoles on Vaxncm. /etc/ttys = 12console /etc/ttytype = vt100 console printenv = $TERM=vt100 eeprom settings columns = 80, rows = 34 scrsize = 1600x1280 Vaxsbh and Vaxmdp consle on Vaxncm. /etc/ttys = console "... std.9600" vt100 printenv = vt100 Vaxncm console /etc/ttys = console "... std.9600" vt100 printenv = xterm To set the eeprom without going to the monitor prompt, you can do an '/usr/etc/eeprom' and this will list the settings. You can then do a /usr/etc/eeprom qualifier=variable, then do a /usr/etc/eeprom to see if it took, then do a hard reboot (meaning you either power off or do a "k2" at the monitor prompt).
