distance is key - keep to geographic local (too far and people won't leave 
  their families, too close and it may get wiped out too)

tapes are not effective - slow, cumbersome: needs speedier recovery for
  terabytes of data

all apps are critical - you won't know what you are missing until you are
  missing it

inconsistent backups == no backups at all

people dependent processes will fail

docs - keep offsite and web accessable (keep up to date, ISP service them in 
  the remote area)
